Gianluca Di Marzio reports Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has delayed his decisive face-to-face talks with Inter target Luka Modric until Friday.

The Croatia captain, heavily linked with the Nerazzurri over the last fortnight, finally returned to pre-season training with Los Blancos yesterday.

It was expected that he would meet with the Bernabeu chief, informing him of his desire to leave the Spanish capital in favour of a move to San Siro.

However, the only Real official Modric is said to have spoken to is Perez’s right-hand man – director Angel Sanchez.

Journalist Di Marzio states Perez returned late from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States, while most of his focus today will be on the arrival of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea.

According to the transfer expert, the delays are all part of a strategy by the President to cause uncertainty and impatience on Inter’s part.

Despite Perez’s efforts to keep Modric at Real, Inter are encouraged by the fact there appears to be a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ between player and President.

Modric and Perez are thought to be on excellent terms, with the Nerazzurri hoping the Bernabeu chief will honour a long-standing agreement to allow him to leave.
