Cagliari and Serie A cult hero Andrea Cossu has officially ended his playing career. “It went exactly how I dreamed it would.”
Cossu was given a farewell friendly by Cagliari on Wednesday evening, although the Sardinians lost 1-0 to Atletico Madrid.
“I’m close to agreeing a collaborative role with the club. More will be known in the coming days,” the 38-year-old said after the game.
“My career? It went exactly how I dreamed it would, going full circle. I’m happy I ended it at Cagliari.
“My most beautiful memory? My goal at Juventus and above all surviving with [Davide] Ballardini in 2008.”
The attacking midfielder made 270 appearances for the Rossoblu across two spells, scoring 12 goals and assisting 58 of them.
His peak came during the 2009-10 season, when his performances earned him two Italy caps.
