A sensational Lautaro Martinez volley and last-gasp Samir Handanovic save saw Inter beat Atletico Madrid in the International Champions Cup.

This was not only the final pre-season friendly, but also the last game in the ICC, hosted on this occasion by the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

It was a strong start from Luciano Spalletti’s side, as Mauro Icardi forced a tough save from Jan Oblak one-on-one after a Lautaro Martinez dummy.

Marcelo Brozovic, in a more advanced role, stung Oblak’s gloves from distance, but Inter took the lead with a truly magnificent finish from their summer signing.

Kwadwo Asamoah’s floated ball over the top found Lautaro Martinez at the back post for an extraordinary scissor-kick volley from a tight angle.

Atleti thought they had equalised on the stroke of half-time after a Joao Miranda error trying to clear his lines, as Angel Correa managed to drill in relatively undisturbed, but that’s because he was marginally offside, spotted on VAR.

The hosts pushed harder after the restart and Dalbert flung himself in the path of a Juanfran finish, though Lautaro Martinez’s header wasn’t far off target.

Atletico Madrid thought they had equalised in the final minute, but Vitolo couldn’t believe his eyes when denied by an amazing Samir Handanovic reaction save.
