As Zenit struggle to agree terms with Genoa, now Milan have dived in for Uruguay wing-back Diego Laxalt.
The 25-year-old declared he wanted to move on from Genoa even before an impressive World Cup campaign this summer.
He was linked with several teams, including Sporting CP and Lazio, but seemed closest to Zenit St Petersburg.
According to Sportitalia, Zenit still haven’t been able to agree a deal and it has opened the door for Milan.
Directors Leonardo and Paolo Maldini both left Casa Milan headquarters this afternoon, suggesting new negotiations were intensifying.
Laxalt would be essentially a replacement for Luca Antonelli, who terminated his contract to join Empoli as a free agent last week.
Genoa and Milan have regularly exchanged players and Andrea Bertolacci could be included as part of the swap.
Laxalt started his Serie A career at Milan's rivals Inter.
