It is a return to Serie A for the Italy international, who was born and raised in Germany with Bayern Munich before spells at Sampdoria, Empoli and Villarreal.
He arrived on loan for €1m with €14m option to buy at the end of the season, though that will become an obligation if he hits a certain number of appearances.

“It was a long negotiation process, though I didn’t know about it until towards the end and my bag was packed when I got the call,” the 27-year-old said on the official Torino website.
“I wanted to come back to Italy, I’m very happy now that I’m here and first impressions are very positive. I can’t wait to start work with the Coach and the lads.
“I remember facing Torino was always pretty tough, because the team and their fans push you all the way, and that’s as an opponent. I can only imagine having them behind me is going to be even stronger.
“I hope to give my contribution and help the team. Forza Toro.”
