“Playing between the lines and getting the right passing lines through the traffic of a clogged up midfield is harder. The pitch was also just impossible. It didn’t matter what studs you had.
“It makes a big difference with a pitch like that if you are trying to pick a pass to feet rather than go on the counter-attack. Effectively, we lost the game because of a penalty and Sassuolo didn’t create many chances.”
Dalbert was substituted at half-time for Ivan Perisic, moving Kwadwo Asamoah to left-back.
“Dalbert didn’t read the moves quickly enough and can certainly do better, but he had his moments and can cause problems with his crosses.
“The team today played the game it needed to play for long periods, we just conceded a few too many counters and it was difficult to find space with everyone sitting back defending, especially after they took the lead.”
