Coach Gian Piero Gasperini hails Papu Gomez as Atalanta’s answer to Cristiano Ronaldo, and looks ahead to the Copenhagen tie in the Europa League.
The Orobici returned to Serie A action tonight, thrashing Frosinone 4-0 with two goals and two assists from Gomez.
After the match, it was put to the Coach by Sky that the captain is his side’s Ronaldo.
“Yes, we could say that,” Gasperini conceded.
“This year he has prepared very well, he’s come with good motivation and is doing beautiful things. Last season he was less reactive in goalscoring positions, but he still had a great season.”
Thursday sees Atalanta face FC Copenhagen in the Europa League, as they seek to qualify for the Europa League.
“There are a lot of commitments and we’re missing the most important thing, which is reaching the Europa League groups.
“We’re facing a team which finds itself in the Europa League, but has always previously competed in the Champions League.
“We’re motivated, but we know it’s not easy.”
