The first leg of the Europa League play-off is at the Mapei Stadium on Thursday at 19.00 UK time (18.00 GMT).

“It’s a very long season and we started very early. It has gone well so far and what counts is getting into Europe,” said the midfielder in a Press conference.

“We’ll try to put in a fine performance and win the game, then we’ll see what happens.”

Atalanta had a strong run in the Europa League last season, but narrowly lost the knockout tie to Borussia Dortmund, 4-3 on aggregate.

“I still can’t think back to that game, as it pains me. That one stuck in my craw.”
