A last-gasp penalty saw Alessandro Nesta’s Perugia hold Brescia to a draw in the 2018-19 Serie B curtain-raiser.

This season’s second division will feature just 19 teams, after Avellino, Bari and Cesena went bankrupt.

That means one side gets a rest day in each round, with Livorno given the round off in Week 1.

Despite threats of a player strike, tonight’s clash between Brescia and Perugia went ahead, and the hosts opened the scoring through Dimitri Bisoli, who provided a lovely finish on Felipe Curcio’s cross.

Despite threats of a player strike, tonight’s clash between Brescia and Perugia went ahead, and the hosts opened the scoring through Dimitri Bisoli, who provided a lovely finish on Felipe Curcio’s cross.

The Rondinelle looked to be in a comfortable position, but Daniele Gastaldello was dismissed on 69 minutes for an elbow on Luca Vido.

Despite their man advantage the Umbrians couldn’t find an equaliser, until goalscorer Bisoli was adjudged to have pulled Vido’s shirt in the second minute of stoppage time.

It was the former Cittadella striker himself who stepped up to take the kick and he made no mistake, saving a point for Nesta’s side at the death.
