Dries Mertens believes Napoli achieved “a deserved victory” over Milan and has no problem being a super-sub for the moment.

The Partenopei were trailing 2-0, but completed the comeback to win 3-2 in under 30 minutes with a Piotr Zielinski brace and Mertens off the bench.

“It’s wonderful to see the stadium packed, as usually in August people are on the beach. The fans really helped us in this fightback,” the Belgian told DAZN.

They had also been 1-0 down at Lazio last week before eventually winning 2-1, so Carlo Ancelotti’s side are turning it into a trend.

“It’s a strong squad and we had 91 points last season. Now we must continue building on that, take it one game at a time and try to win.

“At the end of the day, it was a deserved victory.”

Mertens was on the bench in favour of Arkadiusz Milik for the second game running.

“There are so many strong players, it’s natural that some have to go on the bench, even if we all deserve to play. I was tired after a long World Cup and Milik is doing very well.”
