Spalletti: 'Inter difficult to explain'

Luciano Spalletti admits “it’s not easy to explain” how Inter fell apart in a 2-2 draw with Torino. “We didn’t have the right reaction to pressure.”

The Nerazzurri lost 1-0 to Sassuolo in the opening round, then fumbled a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Torino this evening.

The Andrea Belotti goal that got Toro back in was unusual, as Iago Falque’s long ball seemed to be misjudged by Samir Handanovic.

“It’s not easy to explain why we lost our way in the second half, because we seemed surprised by a long ball from midfield,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We didn’t give the right consideration to the ball and there can be no other explanation. We then didn’t have the right reaction to pressure. It’s difficult to explain how we conceded those goals, but clearly the reality is that the team is struggling with pressure.”

Spalletti started the season stating without hesitation that they had Scudetto ambitions, but has he changed his tune after one point from two rounds?

“Winning every game becomes frankly tough considering where we’re coming from. We still need to take steps forward. The whole approach was wrong against Sassuolo, but here we started so well and after a banal goal we lost our way.

“It’s all fine and good you telling me Inter are the anti-Juve, but you have to be the anti-Napoli, Roma and Lazio first. Because then you say it and let it all rest on my shoulders.

“If you ask me about that performance against Sassuolo, I tell you we’re not the anti-anyone, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have the faith in the potential of my squad. The media do their job, but it does create pressure.”
