Mario Balotelli is expected to receive another Italy call-up, but injury rules out Marco Verratti.
Calciomercato.com reports 22 of Roberto Mancini’s squad for next month’s Nations League matches against Poland and Portugal – which will be announced on Saturday – ‘are already certain of their places’.
Among them would be Balotelli, but a thigh injury to Verratti sees him join Andrea Conti, Mattia De Sciglio and Alessandro Florenzi on the treatment table.
However, the website believes there are several more spots up for grabs as Emerson Palmieri, Matteo Darmian, Davide Zappacosta and Daniele Rugani all battle for a place at the back.
Further afield, Marco Benassi, Daniele Rugani, Niccolo Barella and Rolando Mandragora would be vying for midfield berths, with Matteo Politano, Stephan El Shaarawy and Simone Verdi in contention for attack.
Probable Italy certainties for Poland and Portugal: Donnarumma, Perin, Sirigu; Bonucci, Chiellini, Caldara, Criscito, D’Ambrosio, Romagnoli; Bonaventura, Cristante, De Rossi, Jorginho, Parolo, Pellegrini; Balotelli, Immobile, Belotti, Insigne, Chiesa, Bernardeschi, Berardi
