What you need to know: Shakhtar won the Ukrainian First League for the first time in two years, despite having been exiled from Donetsk since 2014 due to the ongoing war which has ravaged their hometown.

This season’s matches will be played in Kharkiv, close to 300km north of Donetsk.

Manchester City

Country: England

Best Champions League/European Cup result: Semi-finals [2016]

What you need to know: Pep Guardiola’s first season in England was a disappointment, with City failing to mount a challenge for the Premier League title.

City threw away a 5-3 lead in the first leg of their Last 16 Monaco, losing 3-1 in the principality to go out on away goals.

The pair met twice in the 2011-12 group stage, with the Partenopei finishing a point above the English side in second place.
