Milan and Lazio both qualified for the group stage automatically, although Atalanta’s playoff defeat to FC Copenhagen leaves the Rossoneri and Aquile as Italy’s only representatives in the competition.
Joining the Diavolo in Group F are Olympiacos, the former Greek champions who beat Premier League side Burnley in the playoffs, as well as Luxembourgish debutants Dudelange and Real Betis – back in Europe after five years away.
As for Lazio, they have been placed in Group H alongside Eintracht Frankfurt, Cypriot club Apollon Limassol and last season’s runners-up Marseille, who recently signed Kevin Strootman from the Aquile’s arch-rivals Roma.
The draw for the Europa League group stage also saw Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann crowned as the competition’s best player of 2017-18.
