“It’s really a tough group for Lazio and nothing can be taken for granted, so they need to be wary,” Crespo told Sky Sport Italia.

“I’d like to see the Italian teams winning again in the Europa League. It has been 20 years since my Parma won the UEFA Cup and that is frankly too long.

“It’ll be interesting to see how Ciro Immobile does in international games, as it’ll help him gain experience for the future of the Italy squad.

“As for Gonzalo Higuain, I think we’ll see him play more in Serie A for Milan than the Europa League. After so many years of the Champions League, this will seem simple enough to him.”

When asked to pick the Europa League favourites, Crespo looked towards another of his former clubs.

“There are prestigious sides there and if they decide to target the Europa League as a priority, they can bring the trophy home.

“We’ll see if Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea focus on Europe this season, while Sevilla are specialists in the Cup competitions.”
