“These two teams remain in my heart and it’s difficult to cheer either one on in this situation,” Capello told Sky Sport Italia, having won the Scudetto with both sides.

“I think Milan made some very good signings on the market, now Gattuso must be given time to give an identity to the side.

“I am very interested to see this Roma and how they’ll recover from the Atalanta game. It’s a young squad, many of the new arrivals will take time to understand Eusebio Di Francesco’s tactics.”

Capello commented on the transformation of the Milan hierarchy with Leonardo and Paolo Maldini replacing Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli.

“It’s about time that these figures came back to Milan. I signed Leonardo from PSG and Paolo Maldini came up through the youth academy.

“Milan needs Milanisti and before the atmosphere had very little of the Rossoneri.”
