Former Italy Under-21 international Federico Macheda has officially signed for Panathinaikos.

The striker only just turned 27 last week, but the early promise of his career when leaving the Lazio youth academy to sign for Manchester United in 2007 has dissipated.

He had spells at Sampdoria, QPR, VfB Stuttgart, Doncaster Rovers, Birmingham City, Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest and most recently Serie B outfit Novara.

His contract expired in July and he was a free agent, so able to sign a three-year deal with Greek side Panathinaikos.
