The decision over whether Serie B will remain at 19 teams or move to 22 has been postponed until Tuesday – delaying the Lega Pro fixture list again.

Avellino, Bari and Cesena failed to register for the new season due to financial problems and rather than bring other sides back up from Lega Pro/Serie C, they decided to simply reduce the division to 19 teams.

Even though the campaign has already started and is two rounds in, the CONI (Italian Olympic Committee) today considered an appeal from clubs including Catania, Virtus Entella, Novara, Pro Vercelli, Siena and Ternana to expand it to 22 teams.

It now transpires that the verdict won’t be delivered until at least Monday or Tuesday.

That means also postponing the ceremony to draw up the fixture list for the 2018-19 Lega Pro season, which has already been put back twice due to the chaos.

It was meant to be performed tomorrow, but that cannot happen when we don’t know which clubs will be in which league or even how many are in either division.
