Sampdoria and Poland defender Bartosz Bereszynski admired their “ambition” against Italy in the Nations League, even regretting it was only a draw.

Piotr Zielinski had given Poland a deserved 1-0 lead in the first half, but Federico Chiesa was brought down for a Jorginho penalty in the 1-1 result.

“We’re happy to have put in a strong performance, but on the other hand are disappointed to have conceded that goal from the spot,” Bereszynski told Polish TV.

“There were a couple of really good opportunities in the first half and it’s a shame we didn’t convert them.”

Poland are in the Nations League group with Italy and Portugal, so a point away from home is a strong start.

“The Coach told us before the game that his dream was to see us play with ambition and I think we did that, so we can be happy with the draw.”
