Sampdoria have responded to reports of Walter Sabatini being admitted to intensive care by assuring that ‘the situation is under control’

Leggo reported on Monday that Sabatini – known for being an avid smoker – had been taken to a hospital in Rome after his breathing problems flared up.

A statement on Samp’s official website read: “Regarding the news that has spread on the condition of technical director Walter Sabatini, his family and Sampdoria emphasise these are routine checks, that the situation is under control and they demand, as always in these cases, maximum respect for his right to privacy.”

The technical director turned 63 in May and only joined the Blucerchiati over the summer after spells with Lazio, Palermo, Roma and Inter.
