“The defeat is very disappointing, as we tried to give our all and cause Portugal problems, but we were unable to get a result,” the Milan midfielder told Rai Sport.

“We need to work, play together and find the right way of playing to get us results. I think this squad has the quality to do well.”
Is it disconcerting that Portugal were able to outplay Italy even without their star man?
“With Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal are certainly stronger. I thought Italy’s performance wasn’t bad, so we can fight it out with this Portugal and I didn’t see much difference between the teams tonight.”
