Napoli defender Vlad Chiriches will be out for “four to six months” after ACL surgery, confirmed the Romania team doctor.

The full-back sustained the serious left knee injury while on international duty and went under the knife on Monday.

“I spoke to Chiriches straight after the operation and fortunately it went well, but I have to say this type of injury doesn’t have a fast recovery process,” doctor Claudio Stamatescu told Radio Marte.

“I am happy that he has a warrior spirit, but he’ll need a long period of rehabilitation. Generally, this kind of operation requires four to six months before he can play again, although a lot depends on how the player’s body reacts.

“We’ll see how he is doing in six weeks. I have great faith in Professor Mariani and the Napoli medical chief, Alfonso De Nicola, and think Chiriches will make a full recovery.”
