Former Italy hitman Alessandro ‘Spillo’ Altobelli has urged Roberto Mancini to shelve the “experiments” in the Nations League.

The Azzurri currently prop up the group after a 1-1 home draw with Poland and 1-0 defeat to Portugal.

Even though this tournament has a real influence on qualification for Euro 2020 and the FIFA ranking, which could give an easier draw in future, Mancini changed nine of his 10 outfield players from one game to the other.

Even though this tournament has a real influence on qualification for Euro 2020 and the FIFA ranking, which could give an easier draw in future, Mancini changed nine of his 10 outfield players from one game to the other.

“Ciao Roberto,” wrote 1982 World Cup winner Altobelli in an open letter on Instagram.

“It’s tougher than you thought. Others had passed up on the job because they wanted to find it all organised, but you turned down more money elsewhere.

“However, in these two games with Poland and Portugal you changed, even transformed, the systems and players, giving off the impression you are struggling and wanted to just see everyone.

“I remind you of Enzo Bearzot, Azeglio Vicini, who knew the Nazionale had to be a target for everyone, not a chance to make experiments.

“You asked for clubs to play more Italians, so you set the example! Good luck and always Forza Azzurri!!!”
