Inter striker Mauro Icardi has urged Argentina to stick with him after a fifth cap without a goal. “Sooner or later it’ll come.”

Icardi completed 85 minutes of Argentina’s 0-0 draw with Colombia on Tuesday evening, and the Inter captain – who was left out of his country’s World Cup squad – made it clear he was ‘committed’ to the Albiceleste.

“We had a good game and turned the national team into a great group,” he said after the match.

“For me, it was a great game. I felt good and did what the Coach asked me to do. The injury has passed, I trained all week and I didn’t feel any discomfort on the field.

“I missed a goal by very little, but I’m happy and I know that sooner or later it’ll come. I’ll do what I have to do for Inter and here in the national team.

“I came to confirm and show my commitment. I was waiting for the opportunity to play for my national team.

“It’s a shame that I wasn’t part of the World Cup squad, but now I’m focused on Inter.”
