Eusebio Di Francesco confessed “the worst thing you can do is think you’re in control and not finish it off” after Roma’s 2-2 draw with Chievo.

It was another disappointing result for the Giallorossi, who have just two points from the last three rounds.

Above all, it was a wasted opportunity, throwing away a 2-0 lead for 2-2 and very nearly losing with the last kick of the game.

It was another disappointing result for the Giallorossi, who have just two points from the last three rounds.

Above all, it was a wasted opportunity, throwing away a 2-0 lead for 2-2 and very nearly losing with the last kick of the game.

“It all seemed to be under control, but those are the situations I really don’t like, because we need to learn to kill off matches,” the Coach told DAZN.

“We concede goals far too easily. We barely allowed anything to Chievo other than shots from distance and a deflected cross. We cut off their passing channels, but the worst thing you can do is think you’re in control and then not finish it off.

“I was trying to keep the concentration up, even if we had gone to 3-0. We had so many chances to seal it and then conceded on a half-chance. Valter Birsa was able to curl the ball into the corner where our goalkeeper couldn’t reach.”

Roma’s confidence is shot, so it’s the worst way to go into a Champions League opener against Real Madrid.

“These results can dent the players’ confidence and ability to read the game. We must improve, as the team plays good football, but then has to score four or five to avoid tension at the end.

“We didn’t score four or five, so Chievo stayed alive, and we cannot afford that in Madrid. We’ve got to build on a strong defence.

“The plan today was to spread the play out wide, but it only partially paid off.”
