Carlo Ancelotti says Napoli will be looking to his Milan sides of 2003 and 2007 for inspiration in the Champions League this season.

Milan needed qualifiers to reach the Champions League on both occasions they last won the competition, with Ancelotti’s Rossoneri side beating Red Star en route to their most recent triumph.

“That was an early Final because that Red Star had fantastic players back then,” said the Coach at a Press conference, referring to when fog spared the Diavolo against Red Star in 1988.

“That game became famous, and playing it again suited us. Then I came back in 2006 as a Coach. Ultimately it went well on both occasions. There’s no two without three…

“Only with Real was I faced with the expectation of winning. I won the Champions League twice with Milan having started from qualifiers and going game by game.

“We have to do the same with Napoli now. We have the enthusiasm and desire to move forward.

“After that, there’s the charm of this competition, in a group that’s the most difficult, so for this we must start well. The talk must follow the facts on the field.

“Lorenzo [Insigne] has shown himself to be precise and effective in all positions. We’ll assess him like the others who played on Saturday because those who haven’t recovered remain out.

“We need a fresh team because the pace will be high. What will I tell the lads? In these games they need to be brave.

“These clashes are felt, so we mustn’t let it get to us too much. It’s also important that the President will be with us.

“We want to build something important for our fans.”
