Amin Younes has branded claims that he did not want to join Napoli because of the Camorra ‘ghastly’ after looking back on his turbulent summer.

Younes ultimately signed for Napoli on a free transfer from Ajax, but not before a public slinging match between the winger’s camp and the Partenopei, as well as a report that suggested he felt intimated by an alleged encounter with the crime syndicate.

“All these things make no sense,” he told DPA.

“During the four days I was in Italy, I didn’t even see the city. My medical was in Rome and I spent the other three days at Napoli’s training ground, which is 40 minutes away from Naples.

“I’ve been here for two months now, and those newspaper headlines seem even more ghastly.

“Why? Because Naples is a beautiful city and the Neapolitan peope are very friendly. It wasn’t just wrong for me but for them too.

“I’m responsible for everything I do and I’m responsible for the consequences that result from those actions.

“I made mistakes. I trusted the wrong people, I was naive. It was clear that I’d become a free agent over the summer.

“That’s why some people whispered things in my ear. And unfortunately I let myself get involved.

“Anyone can be treated badly in their life, one way or another, but I don’t want any sympathy.

“Like I said before, I’m the first person responsible. I’m young and maybe I was driven too much by my emotions.

“I can’t change what happened, but I can and must learn from it.”
