Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister said the red card was “the shame of football. They want to destroy my brother and will pay a high price for these tears.”
The Juventus star was shown a straight red card early into tonight’s 2-0 Champions League victory away to Valencia.
Video evidence suggests he barely touched Jeison Murillo’s head, but was sent off for tugging the hair in an off the ball incident.
As there is no VAR in the Champions League, German referee Felix Brych had to rely on his goal-line assistant.
Ronaldo was distraught, leaving the field in tears, and his sister Katie Aveiro unleashed a tirade on Instagram.
“The shame of football. Justice will be served,” she wrote.
“They want to destroy my brother, but God never sleeps.
“There will be a high price for these tears. They want to bring you down, but they won’t succeed.”
It now remains to be seen how long the ban will be.
Just one game would rule Ronaldo out of the Young Boys fixture, but two risks ruining the 'homecoming' to Old Trafford against Manchester United.
