Simone Inzaghi admits Lazio “could and should have done better” against Apollon Limassol, but he’s happy to take the three points.

They got off to a strong Europa League start, beating Apollon Limassol 2-1 thanks to Luis Alberto and a Ciro Immobile penalty, but also wasted numerous opportunities and ran some risks at the back.

“The regret is that we didn’t score at least one more goal and that Apollon found the net with a lucky ricochet,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We wanted to begin the group with a victory and we achieved that. I liked the initial approach to the game, which was the first for many of our players, although in the second half we could and should have done better.

“It won’t be an easy group, as Eintracht Frankfurt proved themselves a good team, just like Marseille.”

The Germans earned a shock 1-0 win in Marseille this evening, even though they were down to 10 men for the final half-hour.

Felipe Caicedo silenced some of his critics today with a delightful back-heel flick on Luis Alberto’s goal and several other chances, as well as impressive build-up play.

“I never had any doubts on Caicedo, as he’s a fine professional,” added Inzaghi.

“Everyone here loves him because he works hard and it’s not easy to be a centre-forward in a team with Immobile, but I am absolutely satisfied with his performances. He can really help us a lot this season.”
