Klavan: 'Serie A superior to Premier'

Ex-Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan feels “the level is superior to English football and Cagliari’s Rolando Maran reminds me of Jurgen Klopp.”

The Sardinians take on Parma today at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT), click here for the line-ups and Liveblog.

He was a surprise transfer deadline day arrival from Liverpool, but is enjoying his experience in Serie A.

“I can see the level in Serie A is superior to English football and it’s only getting stronger,” Klavan told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The mentality is crucial, no matter where you are playing. If you don’t have the right concentration, you’re going to struggle even against the worst players.

“The sides I admire the most are Juventus and Napoli. If the Bianconeri reached the Champions League Final twice in the last four years, that cannot be a coincidence.”

It was a surprising move from Liverpool to Cagliari, a side that narrowly avoided relegation last season.

“I wanted to come here in order to discover a different top five league and a club rich with history. I also thank my former teammate, Dejan Lovren, who put me in contact with Darijo Srna. He was the one who convinced me to come.

“My family is happy, it’s a good team, the fans are passionate and the atmosphere relatively relaxed. It’s the ideal place for me to do well.

“Klopp and Maran have some similarities too, as they have a very simple way of putting things, especially to defenders. If you move the wrong way, they’ll repeat it until you understand. When you’re under pressure, both tend to keep working on you until you get it right in training as well as during a match.”
