Davide Ballardini took decisive action to make Genoa less “passive” against Lazio, but couldn’t prevent the 4-1 defeat.

The Grifone were ultimately knocked down 4-1 at the Stadio Olimpico by a Ciro Immobile brace, Felipe Caicedo and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

“The game was open up until their fourth goal. I liked our performance in the second half, but in the first we allowed Lazio to play and take the initiative too much,” the Coach told Radio Rai.

Ballardini surprisingly hauled off centre-back Nicolas Spolli only 27 minutes in to introduce forward Cristian Kouame.

“As time went on, we grew into it and had out chances. The real problem was the first half, as we were passive. That is why I put on another striker. We all moved further forward and held out far better.

“We’ve had many strong and organised away performances, but I also don’t forget the Sassuolo match where we were great for 70 minutes and then committed football suicide in 15 minutes.”
