Roma fan Daniele De Santis saw his 16-year prison sentence for murder confirmed after shooting Napoli supporter Ciro Esposito in 2014.
The incident happened ahead of the Coppa Italia Final between Fiorentina and Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on May 3, 2014.
De Santis admitted firing the gun, but had claimed self-defence and that he felt threatened by a crowd of Fiorentina ultras walking towards him.
Today the Cassazione appeals court confirmed the 16-year sentence for murder, as a previous appeals court had reduced the original sentence from 26 years.
“I wanted the truth and I got it,” said Antonella Leardi, the mother of slain Esposito.
“I was never interested in how many years De Santis had in prison, but just that his responsibility was defined.”
