Fiorentina legend Giancarlo Antognoni fumed he had ‘never seen a penalty given’ like the one awarded to Inter on Tuesday.
Inter beat Fiorentina 2-1 courtesy of a controversial penalty, which Viola boss Stefano Pioli contested as Vitor Hugo ‘does nothing to go looking for the ball’.
“Chiesa showed he was a great player,” team manager Antognoni told Sky Sport Italia.
“There’s regret: some unfavourable decisions went against us. I’d never seen a penalty given for the ball touching someone’s fingertips before.
“We came here to play. Every time we come here, something always happens. There was also VAR last season and I had to complain then. It’s the same now.
“It was hardly a penalty: the ball never changed trajectory so I don’t understand how the VAR could give a penalty.
“The contact was too light for a penalty. It seems clear to me that the ball doesn’t change direction, but I’m happy with Fiorentina’s performance.”
