Former Serie A and international referee Luigi Agnolin has died at the age of 75 after a long illness.

He officiated 226 Serie A games, making his debut in the top flight when Fiorentina beat Cagliari 3-0 on March 18, 1973.

Agnolin represented Italy at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, also officiating the 1987 Cup Winners’ Cup Final and 1988 European Cup Final.

After retirement, he was the Commissioner of the Serie C referee’s association from 1990-92, then Extraordinary Commissioner of the overall Italian Referee’s Association in 2006.
