Aleksandar Kolarov “knew sooner or later” he would make history as only the second ever player to score in a derby for both Roma and Lazio.

“The important thing was to win for us. I said before we were a strong team and we deservedly won this game,” the full-back told Sky Sport Italia after a 3-1 victory.

“We are happy with the performance, for our fans, for us and our players.”

Arne Selmosson was the only other player to score in a Derby della Capitale for both Roma and Lazio.

“It was in 1958, if I’m not wrong. Exactly 60 years. I always try to do my best, I knew sooner or later I would score a goal for the Giallorossi in the derby, so it was bound to happen.”

Lazio had won five in a row in all competition, whereas Roma were in deep crisis ahead of the midweek 4-0 win over Frosinone.

“Perhaps we needed a rough period to shake us up. Last time it was in February, this time round it came early. I still think we ought to beat Bologna even if down to eight or nine men, so maybe we needed that wake-up call to win the derby.”

Federico Fazio scored the third goal, having gifted the temporary equaliser to Ciro Immobile with a howler.

“I always tell Fazio, seeing as I am one of the oldest here, that the problem is not making a mistake, but getting back on your feet afterwards.

“I want to compliment Lorenzo Pellegrini, who is very young, but today showed he can shoulder the pressure on the big occasion.”
