Leonardo Bonucci had a special dedication for his goal and assured Juventus are “reinforced by obstacles” after fighting back to beat Napoli 3-1.
Dries Mertens had opened the scoring, largely down to Bonucci’s error, but Mario Mandzukic bagged a brace and Bonucci turned in a Cristiano Ronaldo header from a corner.
“It’s an important goal, it was important to win and putting Napoli six points behind is a big step,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.
“We had a bad start, as we misplaced too many passes and were if anything over-eager. These are three fundamental points.
“When you are called Juventus, it’s your duty to play the ball and try not to just hoof it away, as we can create with those wonderful players in attack.
“We conceded after an error playing our way out from the back, but this is a team that is reinforced by obstacles and we proved that again.”
For the first time since his return from Milan, Bonucci was applauded by all the Juventus fans in the stadium.
“I liked what happened tonight, I’d been waiting for a long time and I am glad they understood my position. I will keep working and have to win them back on the field, I know that.
“Naturally, I dedicate the goal to my wife and the baby girl she is carrying.”
