Marotta surprisingly made the statement live on Sky Sport Italia after a 3-1 victory over Napoli this evening.

It was a bolt from the blue for the chief who has been one of the main architects of the club’s success over the last seven years.

“I think we had four-and-a-half wonderful years together,” said Allegri in his Press conference.

“He is the best European director. He built Juve along with all the other directors to create a winning team. To be honest, I don’t know what to say, because this is news to me as well.

“The director will be missed, but we’ll have to cover his absence.”

In his time at Juventus, Marotta won seven Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia trophies, three Italian Super Cups and reached the Champions League Final twice.
