Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has called sexual assault allegations “fake news,” but police in Las Vegas reopened the 2009 investigation.

The Ballon d’Or winner rejected the claims made by Kathryn Mayorga in Der Spiegel and already threatened legal action.

According to the German magazine, 34-year-old Ms Mayorga filed a report with Las Vegas police shortly after the alleged incident in 2009.

She then reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement with Ronaldo in 2010, receiving $375,000 (£288,000) to never go public with the allegations.

Her lawyers claim that the non-disclosure agreement is void.

After the report in Der Spiegel, Las Vegas police confirmed they “reopened” the investigation in September 2018 and “our detectives are following up on information being provided.

“At the time the report was taken, the victim did not provide detectives with the location of the incident or suspect description.”

Ronaldo moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009.
