Simone Inzaghi believes Lazio “probably would not have lost” to Eintracht Frankfurt without the two red cards, but is “sure we’ll qualify.”

The Aquile were already short on confidence after losing the Derby della Capitale to Roma, but lost their heads in Frankfurt with both Dusan Basta and Joaquin Correa sent off.

Following the 4-1 defeat, they now face back-to-back showdowns with Olympique Marseille to decide who will take second behind the Germans.

“There are regrets, because in my view we could’ve done better. Without some of those incidents, we probably would not have lost,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Even when down to 10 men, we still had the chance to equalise with Correa, then the referee finished us off when he reduced us to nine. I really think Correa’s foul was worthy only of a yellow and not a straight red.

“We are not looking for alibis, it’s a shame because we had played really well for the opening 25 minutes. When the team plays like that, we can do great things, but then we lost our way.

“I am angry at the first goal we conceded, as we lost our man on the marking.”

The good news is that Marseille fumbled a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at Apollon Limassol and remain on one point to Lazio’s three.

“Despite it being a very competitive group, I am certain we’ll progress to the next round. We must always learn from negative experiences and I am optimistic going forward.

“Unfortunately, Lazio make more headlines when we lose two games than when we win five in a row.”
