Gian Piero Gasperini admits Atalanta have to “change our objectives” and focus on staying away from the relegation zone after losing to Sampdoria.

The Orobici are sliding down the standings after another surprise home defeat, this one decided by Lorenzo Tonelli’s free header on a corner.

“It is unfortunate that a goal from a dead-ball situation cost us the game, as this keeps on happening and is therefore a real problem,” Gasp told Sky Sport Italia.

“It is unfortunate that a goal from a dead-ball situation cost us the game, as this keeps on happening and is therefore a real problem,” Gasp told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have different ways of winning, but we seem to always lose like this. It’s not easy for us to put in better performances than this, as we are struggling to finish our chances and take far too long to get the shot away. I feel that’s what causing it and not bad luck.”

Since losing the Europa League play-off to GC Copenhagen in August, Atalanta simply haven’t looked the same team.

“Our position in the table after eight rounds is what it is. We have to accept it and completely change our objectives for the season, focusing on picking up some points and staying away from the danger zone.”
