It kicks off at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa on Wednesday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

There have already been four players who pulled out of the squad for this game and the Poland clash, losing Simone Zaza, Patrick Cutrone, Danilo D’Ambrosio and Alessio Romagnoli.

“There is no problem in attack, as we called in Kevin Lasagna from Udinese and he’ll arrive tonight, so we have the options,” insisted Mancini in his Press conference.

The CT was asked if Italy will adopt a 4-2-3-1 formation as a tactical experiment, changing back to 4-3-3 for next week’s Nations League trip to Poland.

“We’ll certainly play with three up front. To be honest, I don’t remember what a 4-2-3-1 is like… As I already said yesterday, there will be some players who feature in both games.

“We will try out various options. The goalkeeper, I can confirm, will be Gianluigi Donnarumma. Whether Giorgio Chiellini plays in both games or not depends on his fitness levels.”

“I learn a lot from the Serie A games, for example that Lorenzo Insigne has recently changed role and is still a very important player. Federico Bernardeschi continues to improve. I think the players are in general in better shape now than last month, but it’s a pity to have lost four or five to injury.”

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti is back after several months out following surgery.

“It’s important for me to see him along with other players. Clearly, playing for club level is different to the Nazionale, but I hope he can give the support that a player of his experience boasts.

“Ukraine are a good side, they are lowering the average age of the squad and many members of their staff are Italian.

“Our first motivation is to give some joy to the people of Genoa who come to the stadium and it’s always good to see a victory. I hope the team puts in a good performance.”
