Poland defender Kamil Glik expects “an entertaining match and a play-off for safety” in the Nations League against Italy on Sunday.
They are locked together on one point each from two games in their Group, while Portugal’s 3-2 victory today puts them on six.
It means if Italy and Poland draw this weekend, Portugal will automatically be in the Nations League Final Four, while the other two battle to avoid ‘relegation’ from League A.
“This is certainly a play-off for safety, as we are both going through similar periods of form,” ex-Torino defender Glik told Sport Mediaset.
“After the World Cup, we want to get back on track. Italy also need to sort a few things out, so it should be an entertaining match for both sides.”
Poland had taken the lead through Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, but Portugal took control and turned it around.
“There were some incidents where we lost intensity. We were unable to play a balanced game and conceded entirely avoidable goals,” continued Monaco star Glik.
“We played against Portugal, the reigning champions of Europe, and they have so much quality going forward. It’s not a positive result and we have to work hard to be ready against Italy.”
