Biglia: ‘Emotional to meet Maldini’

Milan midfielder Lucas Biglia admits “sometimes I feel shy” when meeting directors Leonardo and Paolo Maldini.

The Argentine joined the Rossoneri from Lazio in 2017, but the arrival of Coach Gennaro Gattuso and the two directors has changed the dynamic.

“I have huge respect for Gattuso,” Biglia told Sky.

“I 100 per cent have to thank for him the fact I’m still here and playing. I was lucky enough to play against him in Belgium in 2006 and to have him as my Coach is a pleasure.

“I hope I can repay him on the pitch. He doesn’t give you a second to relax, he’s always behind you, pushing you to give your best.

“We’re used to the Coach because we see him every day, but meeting Leonardo and Maldini is a strong feeling. Sometimes I feel shy, it’s such an emotion.

“A couple of weeks ago I asked Gattuso for a photo and he told me where to go!

“It’s a strong emotion, we want to hear all of their words, they give us the strength and desire to keep going. We really want to reach our objectives.”

This summer Biglia’s Argentina teammate Gonzalo Higuain also arrived at Milanello.

“The first thing I hoped was that the group would welcome him in the best way, because that’s what he needs.

“When he feels at home is when he gives his best, so that’s what I was hoping for. After a difficult World Cup, he deserves everything that’s happening now.

“When I saw that the lads really liked him, I knew he’d be able to express his qualities. Now he’s helping the youngsters.

“When I would meet him in the national team he’d say that he wanted to play with Suso, and that he liked him very much. We hope that he [Suso] can continue to grow because he can be really good.

“Higuain or Icardi? They’re the two most important players for Milan and Inter. Higuain is our best player and Icardi is Inter’s. We’re interested in what Higuain does.”
