Walter Zenga was officially unveiled as the new Coach of Venezia and wants to see “ferocity” from the Serie B side.

The former Inter goalkeeper, whose last job in the Peninsula was at Crotone, was in ebullient mood at his opening press conference.

“Step by step, game by game, I intend to give Venezia the team it deserves,” he explained. “This side needs to get back the ferocity it had last term.”

Zenga steps in for Stefano Vecchi, who was axed after one win, a draw and four defeats.

Under the tutelage of Filippo Inzaghi, the Arancioneroverdi came desperately close to gaining promotion back to Serie A, but were beaten by Palermo in the Serie B play-off semi-finals.

Zenga, nicknamed Spiderman during his playing days, explained that he was taking a more psychological approach to his new job.

“I want to sit down and talk to every single player individually. I need to understand what goes through his mind.

“I ask one thing and that is that everyone gives their all. Anybody who fails to do so will not play in my team.”
