Italy captain Giorgio Chiellini assures the Nazionale “give our best with backs to the wall” as they go into tonight’s Nations League crunch match with Poland.

It kicks off at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT) and both sides have one point from their 1-1 draw last month in Bologna.

They subsequently both lost to Portugal, so this is a straight fight to avoid potential relegation from League A.

“It is very important for us to avoid relegation, as that would complicate our path towards Euro 2020 qualification and our ranking,” Chiellini told Rai Sport.

“We have to win. We played really well for 60 minutes against Ukraine on Wednesday and are still getting to know each other. We’ve got so much quality in the side and must try to make Poland play the game on our terms, not on theirs of physicality and pace.”

Italy have conceded in each of their last eight games. It’s the first time they’ve had such a negative streak since 1958-59.

“It depends on the balance of the team. Details and incidents matter, so we mustn’t leave anything to chance when it comes to limiting the potential for error,” continued the Juventus defender.

“We are accustomed to playing in a passionate atmosphere that puts pressure on you. The best players are fired up by that sort of venue and Italy give our best with backs to the wall.”
