With their meeting in Bologna last month ending 1-1 and both subsequently losing to Portugal, this is a head-to-head in order to avoid being relegated from League A.

However, Roberto Mancini sticks with the Azzurri XI that drew 1-1 with Ukraine, so Barella is awarded another chance to impress in midfield.

Cristiano Biraghi wins the race to keep his spot at left-back, despite competition from Domenico Criscito.

It’s the same front three of Federico Bernardeschi, Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Chiesa, each taking it in turns to become the False 9.

Poland had taken the lead against Portugal through Genoa hitman Piatek but were eventually beaten 3-2 on home turf.

Piatek has been quite simply a sensation this season, scoring 14 goals for club and country in just 10 competitive matches, yet that isn’t enough for him to displace Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik as Robert Lewandowski’s strike partner.

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny comes in for Lukasz Fabianski as Poland continue to rotate the goalkeepers during this Nations League campaign.

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich is suspended, so Jakub Blaszczykowski – who came off the bench to score a late consolation against Portugal – gets the nod.

It’s worth noting that Giorgio Chiellini, Criscito, Chiesa and Domenico Berardi are a yellow card away from suspension.

The same situation goes for the Polish trio of Fabianski, Blaszczykowski and Grzegorz Krychowiak.

Poland: Szczesny; Bereszynski, Glik, Bednarek, Reca; Szymanski, Goralski, Linetty; Zielinski; Lewandowski, Milik

Italy: Donnarumma; Florenzi, Bonucci, Chiellini, Biraghi; Verratti, Jorginho, Barella; Bernardeschi, Insigne, Chiesa

Referee: Skomina (SLO)
