Cesare Prandelli praises Italy CT Roberto Mancini, and reveals he was close to becoming Napoli Coach in 2012.
The Azzurri beat Poland in the Nations League last night for Mancio’s first competitive win, and at least one of his predecessors was impressed with their display.
“Yesterday we had fun and dominated from start to finish,” Prandelli said on Radio Crc.
“Compliments to Roberto for his choices and for a great match. The team was organised, rather than just individuals.
“[Federico] Bernardeschi, [Federico] Chiesa and [Nicolo] Barella proved they have solidity, quality and stamina.
“We struggled to score goals but we created a lot of chances and were unlucky. Roberto did well to set up the team that way.
“We need to take things step-by-step and now it’s up to Roberto to decide whether to use a striker or not.”
Prandelli was also asked about rumours that he was close to joining Napoli.
“After Euro 2012, yes, but I was tied to Italy. Before [Maurizio] Sarri, no.”
