He converted a penalty and then helped set up Joaquin Correa for the counter-attack deep into stoppages at the Stadio Tardini.

“This is a very valuable victory and one the Coach had asked for,” the striker told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had to work hard for this in a difficult arena. The substitutions made the difference and shook the game up. The important thing is that the team won, not who scored or didn’t score.

“Valon Berisha suffered a horrible injury, but he came on today and made the difference by winning that penalty. He can always rely on our support.

“I like the way we are playing and hope we can keep more clean sheets. Now we’ve got to prepare well for the Europa League.”

Immobile was dropped for Italy’s Nations League crunch match with Poland, with Coach Roberto Mancini preferring Kevin Lasagna.

“I am calm, Mancini knows me and what I can do, so I’ll just try to prove myself again.”
