FIFA chief Gianni Infantino feels ‘a strong FIGC is needed’ for Italy to prosper and that Roberto Mancini has ‘made us fall in love with the Azzurri again’.

The Italian-speaking Infantino was present at the FIGC’s election assembly on Monday morning, and he had a message for President-elect Gabriele Gravina.

“It’s always an honour for me to speak at a meeting like this for Italian football,” said the supremo.

“Welcome Mancini and Oriali, you’re both making us fall in love with Azzurri jerseys again. I’d also like to offer my congratulations again for Italy’s results at youth and women’s level.

“Every commissionership is a defeat, there shouldn’t be any such thing in the world. A strong Federation is needed to resolve issues, but one with passion.

“The resources to start over must be found here, in football. You all must find them.”
