“When you are coming off a nasty defeat, playing straight away is crucial to get right back on your feet,” Santon told Roma TV.

“Obviously, we know the loss to SPAL is a real blow, but this evening we have the opportunity to make up for it.

“Without doubt, the mentality is the most important element and the area where we are most struggling at the moment. When we go behind, we lack the strength to react. This is a fundamental part of the game.”

CSKA are surprisingly top of the group with four points, having drawn 2-2 at Viktoria Plzen and beating Real Madrid 1-0.

“We watched CSKA Moscow, they play the ball well and were often in Real Madrid’s half, so they didn’t just sit back and defend. We must be wary of their counter-attacks, as they are fast. I think that’ll be one of the keys to the game.”
